Reading is a pleasant activity, but for me, as a loner, it is also an activity to be managed alone. I need absolute silence to read, absence of movement, sufficient light. I've tried reading with background music, but I can't concentrate. I can't even write while listening to music. I got the inspiration for this post by reading The five places where I can't read by Neri Fondi and so I decided to talk about my usual places, those where reading is even inhibited, and finally my favorite places. Where I read Currently I only read at home and in my room.
I've tried reading on the plane a few times, but I get too distracted. Maybe something on the train, but even there there is a lot of distraction and too much noise. I read at the desk : it's not really my favorite place, because it's small and there's the laptop which is another source of distraction. I read on the bed : after dinner I read for a couple of hours sitting on the Phone Number Data bed, where there is silence and tranquility. It's not exactly comfortable at best, but that's how it is for now. Where I would never read However, there are places where I would never read a book, for various reasons. I've never even tried because I know I wouldn't have the right concentration. I don't read in the bathroom : okay, there is silence and solitude, but honestly it doesn't seem so hygienic to take my books into the bathroom.
However, it is a place where water is at home and books are hydrophobic. I don't read in the car : if I even try to read the road map I get nauseous. A book would be in serious danger. I don't read in public places : there is no privacy, there is too much confusion, too much movement. They're just not for me. The ideal place to read I imagine a large room used as a library , with bookcases on all the walls up to the ceiling and a long table in the center. A computer station at the head of the table and books being read within easy reach. I would place a comfortable armchair in one corner of the room and sit there and read. The atmosphere is perfect. There is a certain reference to the past and the silence that is needed.
